Scheduled Cruise Tampere-Virrat-Tampere
Experiencing the Poet’s way on steamship Tarjanne is a unique and nostalgic journey through the most beautiful lake sceneries of Finland. It is truly a trip to remember.
Steamship Tarjanne is a real grand old dame, the only passenger steamship in the world that still operates regularly on a long distance route. It was built in 1908 and renovated in years 2006–2008.
Tarjanne is a vital part of Finnish cultural history in many ways. The interior of the ship’s restaurant is designed by artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela, whose work was considered very important for the Finnish national identity. The restaurant is still in its glory, serving passengers with delicious modern Finnish food made with fresh, local ingredients.
Tarjanne’s home harbour is located in the heart of Tampere, right next to the famous amusement park Särkänniemi. The steamship will take passengers from Tampere to Virrat, stopping at Ruovesi along the way. This water route is named Poet’s Way, named after a very well known Finnish poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg, who used to live in Ruovesi, where he wrote many of his famous poets.
The Poet’s Way route from Tampere to Virrat takes 8 hours, and it is a wonderful way to enjoy fresh air and to see the world-famous Finnish lake sceneries, beautiful countryside and green forests that have inspired many great artists during the years.
